Morning, we rescued some chicks that were the same age as our hatch give or take a day or two recently due to their broody being nabbed by a fox.

I am pretty sure one has cocci (and therefore the whole lot). Really droopy and sorry for herself, not much appetite. Is lively when I get her out of the brooder and no bloody stools as yet.

I have seperated her from the rest and have some Easicox cocci treatment for pigeons and rabbits arriving today.

Any advice on dosage please? It says 5ml per litre for pigeons or 5 mile per 5 ltrs for rabbits. It isnt as strong as corid, the amprolium is 4.3% in easicox compared to 9.6 in Corid.

All advice welcome. I desperately want to treat this asap so we don't lose the whole lot.

OK

Someone check my math please -

The Corid product is 9.6ml per gallon of water (or 2.4ml per quart)
9.6% Corid amprolium divided by 4.3% Easicox amprolium = Corid is 2.23 times stronger than Easicox

So 9.6ml per gallon of regular Corid x 2.23 = 21.43ml of Easicox per gallon

So 21.43ml per gallon or 5.36ml per quart of Easicox to make the equivalent Corid dose

So 5.36 ml of Easicox per quart of water is the right dosage?

If they are really looking that sick i suggest dosing 2 or 3 drops of straight liquid corid by mouth to each chick to get it into their system along with in their waterer.

No need to separate sick chicks with this. You can keep them all together.

Is that ok to do? I was a bit worried about giving them to much tbh.

I've popped her back with the others, she misses the company.

I have one that it just droopy and no appetite really. Drinking ok and no dodgy poop. The others are their usual mad selves, racing to their food, clamouring to be let out etc but I know this can spread like mad so want to catch it asap.

Chicks can die quickly when they get this so yes. Its called a drench.

When they are visibly sick with this they need a boost of corid in their system as they may not get enough in time by drinking the medicated water.

If you want, only drench your sickest chicks. They need a heavier dose to start off than the others.

I personally would do it 1x/day for 2 days. Along with the medicated water.

Also keep in mind you are only assuming coccidiosis. Which is a good guess in chicks. But have not seen bloody poop. Just lethargy.

It could be something else in which case corid would have no effect. But this would be my first assumption too.

You should know in about 48 hours if your chick improves. Corid will not harm them either way.

Thank you for the awesome advice. Will crack on then and see how we go.
