Hi all
Identified coccidiosis in our 6wk pullets, living in dog crate in main coop with full grown hens & 10wk pullets.
At least 1 of the 10wk pullets is ill and lots of foamy cocci poops around.
Started Corid yesterday, and today removed EVERYTHING from coop, shop vacuumed and sprayed bleach on all interior.
Cleaned all boxes, rooster, feeders, waterer and as well leaf blew, rinsed and disinfected outside.
Now--> how long / contagious are their ongoing poops while on treatment? How can I possibly maintain this level of cleanliness?

Also: after Corid will start some vitamins , then another week of Corid. Make sense?

Many thanks!!

What dosage of Corid are you putting in the water? Do you have the liquid or powder Corid? What symptoms have you seen? Lethargy, hunched or puffed up posture, not eating? You can’t disinfect a coop. Just aim to keep it dry, and stirred, and add clean bedding when needed. Prevent spills from waterers, raise waterers and feeders to shoulder height to prevent them from pooping it it.

I'm not the person u were talking to but I'm dealing with Coccidia.
I've lost a few chicks, all 14 wks old.
I was advised to give them milk.
The ones living seem to b recovering.
I have Corid, powder being delivered tmrrw morning, then I plan to take them off the milk.
I also have Poultry Cell vitamins coming.

I caused this but I didn't know I shouldn't let the chicks peak in mud. I never knew that & have raised a lot of flocks.
Question: their poop is just watery & yellow.
When does that become normal again?
Dry pellets are available 24/7 but they're not touching them.
They are walking on their own now, but laying around a lot. They usually greet me & want to be held, none of that is going on.
I have put down peat moss then a bit of DE and then 12-50# bags of sand in their 16x20 outside runs each (they have 2). And new dry sand in the coop.
Where they lay is always wet. So I keep making them move, scrape it clean & allow to dry, putting fresh sand down.

What else should I do?

Mix the Corid 1.5 tsp per gallon of water, and give it for 5-7 days as their only source of water. Change the water every day. Do not give Poultry Cell or any other vitamins containing thiamine while on Corid. After that it is okay. What is their feed? Usually chick starter grower is crumbles and given up to 20 weeks. Sand can be very good to dry out a run. Can you try and guide the water that is making the runs wet, away from the runs, or build it up? Pallets might be good to get them out of the mud in the beginning. If any are especially weak, I would give them an extra drench of Corid. Mix 1.5 tsp in 2 tsp of water, and give 1/4 tsp (or 0.1 ml per pound) of that once a day into the beak.

I was the one making the mud! I feel so stupid.

We built these new runs & brooder coop & winter coops. So this is the first flick I raised that were accessible to soil as soon as they were out of the brooder, at 4 weeks.
But recently i accidentally spilled a lot of water as I was flipping the waterer over, they dove on it & instantly started scratching around. So then I did it every day bc they loved it.... not knowing what I was doing.
I feel awful.
Cockerel still is struggling, his tail is down, he's walking a little but he's still allowing me to pick him up. As I was petting him, he laid his head on me. But he is drinking a lot, his poop is just yellow water.
Question, have u ever used milk? Was that a mistake?
Btw, thank you for responding do quickly.

Oh, and since they're suppose to start laying in a couple weeks, I took them off the medicated crumbles a month ago & they're on Layer pellets.

We did flock Corid in water, direct dosed the sickest/ lethargic birds - all for a week. Then we used Nutraflush to replace lost vitamins. 50% of flock/mostly older 1yr olds went back to normal. Young ones continued to suffer, a little
We took new stool to the Vet and samples came back clear.
The vet put them on an antibiotic for 5 days just to be safe, as some still had diarrhea, and we will follow that up with probiotics.
Apparently cocci is common when it's hot and rainy, and it is here.
Also older birds have a tolerance that young ones do not. So if we had been giving our pullets medicated feed it could have been avoided.
Also could have waited until they were older to add to main coop I guess, young ones get hit hard by it.
That's our experience, we only lost one 8wk old early days.
