Colour & Breeding Question

I’m new to silkies and trying to learn about colours etc, but I’m finding a lot of conflicting advice and no conclusive answers!

I thought my boy was paint but someone told he has a blue white base. So after researching more, now I think he’s splash as his spots aren’t as defined despite the feathers being black all the way through.

I’m so confused. I’d love to know either way… I read that:

Splash: Bluer feathers smeared all over, which are darker on the tips but lighter at the base.

Paint: Fully black feathers right down to the base in chunkier spots.

He definitely matches the paint on the blacker feathers down to the base. His tail is beautiful and has both perfectly split feathers that are deep black on one half and white on the other as well as fully black feathers with cute white splashy tips. The black has beautiful iridescent sheen.

He’s only 5.5 months old. This is the flock I got my eggs from for potential parents background:

“Hens are a range of colours including paint, buff, black, white and grey most hens are bearded.

Roosters are buff, splash and white and are bearded”

I have partridge and black hens and I would love to breed him with my fave girl who is black (I think 😆) as she is STUNNING.

Here’s a couple of pics of my boy. First one is today and the second one was a couple weeks ago (two different sides)

Genetics/chicks

It is my understanding that a splash and black will produce all blue chicks, but paint will give me 50% black and 50% paint. Is this correct?

If she’s blue, I could still get splash or paint?

Appreciate all of your help!!

To me he looks paint so he'd produce 50 percent paint, 50 percent black.
Thanks! Thats what I am hoping for, I absolutely love paint, however splash are beautiful too but seems so hard to tell and I have had 50/50 on peoples opinions 😆

If the dad was splash or any of the other colours they had in their flock, could he still be paint? Genetics (and silkies in general! LOL) are confusing man 🤣

No if his dad was splash he'd have to be either blue or splash! (Or blue paint or splash paint if Mom is dominant white.)

Oh ok great!! I don’t actually know what the parental genetics are as they were shipped eggs, however I do know that this is the make up of her flock.

Would this produce paint or is he more likely to be splash?

Sorry, I am so rookie on this stuff! It all seems so complicated and I have no idea what I am talking about! 😆
