Hi yall! Ive been researching comb genetics and kind of know the basics. However, how do you identify combs on day old chicks? I have my easter eggers hatching at the moment and am having a hard time identifying comb types and which is which breed. My chicks are out of my Easter egger rooster (pea comb) and my easter egger (pea comb), SLW (rose comb), and Silver Leghorn (single comb). Any help identifying these little guys? Any pictures of day old or young chicks and their comb types would really help too!

You need to wait one day old is TO early for most breeds.

Do you know if your EEs are homozygous or heterozygous for the pea comb?
If homozygous then the EE and the leghorn crosses will both have pea combs. The SLW if also homozygous would be walnut combs.
If any of the parents are heterozygous then you could end up with a few choices what offspring could have.
Besides the single comb it can be tough to tell exactly what a day old chick has. Many look like there's nothing there at hatch.

I’m confident they are not homozygous for pea comb. But my SLW is definitely homozygous for rose comb. The chicks with the pea or single combs are starting to come in. About how old should I be able to tell the difference between the pea and single combs? They’re starting to come in but they look so similar right now.

I haven't been working with pea combs for a minute and to be honest don't pay a lot of attention to combs on chicks just a few days old.
I'm hatching single comb chicks mostly with a very few rose combs thrown in.
The rose comb looks like there's nothing there. With the single I can see it from hatch. You should be able to see the blade on them. Usually first day or two many look laid over flat.
Maybe pick breeds that have the combs you're curious about and Google that breed day old chicks. Surely you could find pics.
I think if you're trying to figure mothers by chicks comb you're going to have issue because of the EE rooster. Sounds like there's probably the possibility of him throwing single comb offspring with the EE hens and with the leghorns.
Also possible pea with those two so not sure if combs are going to help you much.

Any opinions on whether my 11-week old Easter Egger is a pullet or cockerel? I'm leaning toward pullet since there is no red, but began to worry that a pea comb is emerging.

Pullet.
