I was thinking of planting star jasmine along this wall of the coop. I’m hoping it would climb the trellis and make things smell nice. Is it safe for chickens? Any recommendations if not?

Love/hate it. It smells good but causes a major headache when in bloom. I think chickens have sensitive respiratory systems but don't know if it will effect them the same way.... I try to plant edible stuff like grapes or something else that will grow in your region and I KNOW are chicken safe. :)

Sorry I'm not sure if it's chicken safe or not. But I don't worry too much unless my birds are locked in with access to the plant and nothing else.

I have two large trellises with this (in bloom now)! It is absolutely the most fragrant vine. My chickens do not bother it/eat it. I also have Carolina Jessamine vines all around the yard, and one climbing the chicken run. My chickens don't bother them, either. They tend to be interested in things that are good for food (dandelion weeds, turf grass, blueberry bushes).

I planted kentucky wonder pole beans in containers around the coop. Then some frosty nights appeared. Stunted growth until 70-80 degree weather arrived. Im hoping these will climb and provide shade in my run. Im gonna see if the chickens will pick beans also. As long as they leave a few for us. They have there potted tomato plants for more shade and treats. Sine they are in lockdown while i try to reduce the coyote explosion i want them to be more comfortable and less grouchy. They chew me out and bum rush the gate when i feed them.

Bum rush the gate! Too funny! :ya I have jasmine all around my property....and yes, I sometimes wish I hadn't planted it. It is INVASIVE!!! Haven't wanted to let the chickens free range because I heard it was toxic....My girls are very large breeds, and have heavy appetites....Guess I could give it a try and hope they know what is good for them?
