My chicks are 6 weeks old and we just moved them to the coop. We have an Over EZ chicken coop. It has two windows on one side and 2 small circular vents near the roof. I'm in Georgia and we are already seeing 80 degree days. Will my chicks get too hot? Should I cut more vents or look into a fan or something? I have barred rocks, Orpingtons, a golden buff, a copper Maran, and 2 penedescencas.

Welcome to BYC.

Unfortunately, appallingly bad ventilation is a near-universal trait in pre-fab coops. :(

If there is a pre-fab that actually has the 1 square foot of ventilation per adult, standard-sized hen that is recommended for the number of birds it claims to hold I've never heard of it.

My rule of thumb is that if, on a warm, sunny day, the coop is hotter inside than out you need more ventilation. This ventilation is ideally located above the birds' heads when they're sitting on the roost.

If you post pictures, interior and exterior, of your coop we can help you figure out how to ventilate it better.

good question! i'm not really sure, i know chicks will die if they get above 100 so anything near there is probably less than optimal. probably the cooler you can get it, the better.
one thing you could if it gets VERY hot is to is add crushed ice to there water or offer them watermelon. here is a thread that has replies, not sure if they will help.
