Coop with metal racks.

I am turning my old 10 x 20 wooden shed onto a coop. I shingles the roof to protect it. I found that the previous owner attached four metal racks with metal shelving to the back wall. They are secured very well. I want to place some plastic tubs turned nesting boxes into some and turn the rest into covered storage. The metal is not sharp and has no rust. Any advice to make sure my new chicks will be safe as they mature into hens. I'm starting with 6 or 12 not sure.

What are your concerns with these racks? Posting pictures would also help clarify a little.

If the shelves/nest boxes are higher than your planned roost bars, chickens will want to roost/sleep there.

I'd suggest if these are higher up to use for storage but box them in to the ceiling to keep the birds off them. Or lower to below roost level and use for nest boxes with angled roof to avoid birds sleeping on top.

Metal gets cold in the winter. I would consider wrapping them in agricultural friendly rope or twine if you're going to use them as roosting bars.
