This morning I went out to take care of my 25 chickens and there was a Cooper’s Hawk in my run. It saw me and I watched it fly through my covered run?? There are no holes in this area of the covered run whatsoever! I looked and double checked. I have orange palatic netting along the fence itself and chicken wire on the bottom 3 feet. I have an avian net to cover the net. I have no idea how this Hawk managed to get in let alone get out! Everyday I have been losing a chicken and didn’t know what from. I have an electric wire that runs along the bottom top and middle of the fence for coins, coyotes, and other ground animals. Anyone have hypos happen and have any suggestions. At this rate I’m going to have 0 chickens left by thre month’s end.

Here are some pics of my fence. This is in the exact spot where he got out of my run, although I still don’t quite understand how it did.

I think a male Coopers Hawk can barely squeeze through that. Is it possible you have a Sharp-shined Hawk instead? Either way bird netting should stop problematic hawk. Is it going after chickens or songbirds in the run area?

A fully mature standard sized rooster in good feather would also fix problem.
