I am getting ready to purchase some meat birds. We have a few red broilers, but I was wanting to try a veriety. Is a cornish game hen just a regular cornish butchered early? And also between broilers and cornish, which are more cost effective? Are they they same size at butchering?

Cornish game hen is a Cornish cross butchered early... I believe 6 weeks (but dont quote that) heritage bred Cornish are a nice solid bird but dont have the amazing growth rate and feed conversion on a commercial Cornish cross. Hope this helps

Cornish game hens are in fact CX chickens....

However they are butchered around the 3 week mark, a six week CX is over 5lbs! Cornish cross is commonly referred to as broilers, any of the other meat breeds are generally referred to by name eg. Speckled or Red broilers ect.
