Hi everyone!

a few months ago, we dealt with some sort of respiratory infection in our adult flock (only 3 hens displayed symptoms). I had gotten in contact with a vet who said it’s maybe Infectious Coryza and/or MG. Gave the flock Denagard and CTC (obtained through the vet). They all got better, but I saw that you can vaccinate against Coryza and MG. I have chicks and a momma hen in a separate coop, so I thought it would be great to vaccinate them and the adult flock. The chicks are 6 weeks old, so I administer the Coryza vaccine to the chicks first, then the adults. Come a couple days later, now the all the adults have Coryza symptoms (some eye swelling and drainage). The chicks are acting ok, but a slight bit lethargic. I talked to the vet about this today, and he said they are just reacting to the vaccine. Research online shows that chickens who were vaccinated for Coryza will show mild respiratory symptoms a couple of days later that lasts 5-7 days.

imagine my anxiety when I saw how they looked this morning. My goodness I about cried. Lol.

anyone with experience with vaccine reactions?

Sorry about your chickens. Did the vet ever try to test the chickens for what disease they had? Respiratory diseases can have similar symptoms, may be viruses, bacterial, or fungal, and your state vet can be contacted to help diagnose what you are seeing. Of course, now that you have vaccinated them, that would probably make them positive for both MG and coryza.

Are you sure that the vacine was for both? I have seen MG and combo MG and vaccines for sale, but never seen a coryza vaccine for sale in the US. Can you check with your vet and confirm that he vaccinated for coryza? Are you in the US?

Hopefully, your chickens will get better. Most people do not vaccinate for respiratory diseases. Many flocks in the US and elsewhere may test positive for MG, but coryza is more serious, and some believe that culling sick birds is better for that to control it’s spread. Here is a link for your state vet, should you need to ask about testing, or get a dead chicken diagnosed:

No did not get them tested. Just treated based on symptoms. The Coryza vaccine is for Coryza only. Here is a picture of it:
