At this point I'm pretty sure half of my Silkies are cockerels, but there's one chick in particular that I have high hopes for.
I'm usually pretty good with my intuition when it comes to my own chicks, and I feel like it's a pullet, but what's throwing me off is that this one has always been amongst the largest chicks since day one, along with her (sexlinked) brothers. Now I know size isn't really a reliable indicator of gender. If she's from one particular hen, she's a sexlinked female and full siblings with the sexlinked males, so it would make sense they're a similar size. I do have another blue hen that wouldn't produce sexlinked offspring, so although less likely, she could be the mother too.
So now I've come here. Please tell me she looks like a pullet so far, so I calm down for a couple of weeks
I really don't want a blue rooster, and I'm afraid I'm gonna use anything and everything as an excuse to keep this chick if it's a male.
2nd photo is the blue next to her cuckoo brother for comparison.
And while we're here, what do you think of this silked frizzle? She's not a Silkie, but her feather type came as a surprise to me, and I'd love to keep her in my mixed flock, cause she's very cool looking.
I know, I know, the photos aren't too good. I didn't have my camera with me and my phone was not very willing to cooperate with me today.
