Hi everyone.

Today I was gathering my hen's eggs when one of them slipped from my hand, hit the edge of a board, and cracked. The egg is still intact and none on the albumen is seeping out. I immediately took it inside and put it in the fridge. I also didn't wash the egg beforehand as I wasn't sure if doing that would allow water to seep into the crack. I know the fear of eating cracked eggs stems from them being exposed to bacteria. However, if I put it straight into the fridge is this still a problem? Also, should I still wash it or no?

Any advice is appreciated!

When they first started laying and eggs were scarce I was guilty of eating cracked eggs so long as its not leaking anything. Anymore however I ask myself 'What's the point?'. It's just one egg, I'll get another one tomorrow, why risk it.

I eat/ use cracked eggs. I just don't save them more than a day or two and cook them thoroughly. Otherwise, they are scrambled and given to the dogs or back to the chickens.

I always throw them out to the wildlife just to be super safe, I think they are ok to eat however.

This seems to be the best place to ask this. When I float test my eggs, almost a dozen leaked tons of tiny air bubbles. Are these cracks and are they safe to eat?
