Is my friend's boy Cremello (or "Carmello" as she says) or Perlino. This is the only picture I have, so if you need another I can ask.
Just curious to see if she's right or not...

A Cremello horse will have a WHITE mane and tail, just as a palomino would. Some Cremellos have hair coats which are so pale that their body will look just as white as their mane and tail, while others are more markedly cream colored.

A Perlino horse will have mane, tail, and "points" that are DARKER than their body hair coat, like a buckskin would. But instead of being black, these darker areas are usually rust or orange hued.

^got that off the net. I believe the horse pictured is a Perlino. Due to mane color but also the dark marks on the legs.

I'm not the best at horse color when it comes to the double dilutes, so if I were her, I'd get a confirmed result via color testing versus opinions on the internet. Not that guessing isn't fun, but with picture quality/lighting it can be hard to distinguish. I always thought cremellos had blue eyes and perlinos had green eyes, but that might not be true at all....

color testing - inexpensive, no guessing.

We own a cremello Shetland mare that does not have "blue" eyes (they DO seem to change colors mostly an bluish/green coloring w/ brown flakes) and carries a bay gene so she can produce both palomino and buckskin foals.

Depending on the time of year and how clean she is - she can look perlino or cremello, lite palomino or pearly white, LOL.

Pics of Kechi at approx 8 weeks of age (she was sold to us off of her dam, way too early BUT had an infection that we treated, so maybe not a bad thing?) and later...

Kechi's first foal - a buckskin tobiano filly who was VERY light in shade. She is sired by a bay tobiano stallion that we know only carried 1 bay gene & 1 tobi gene & don't know if he's hetero or homozygous for black. We didn't get Jynx color tested before we lost her and her 1/2 sister to a lightning strike in 2017, so we don't know if she had 1 or 2 bay genes.

Kechi has been bred to a stallion that is homozygous bay and tobiano, so foal is guaranteed to be a buckskin tobiano OR a palomino tobi carrying 1 or 2 bay genes - depending on wether sire gives a red or black color gene. She hasn't been tested, but we haven't seen her come back into season either. Stallion was castrated, so if not in foal, will not be able to repeat the breeding.

He could also be a Smoky Cream, or even some combination of Cream and Champagne. If you really, really want to know for sure, as @Peaches Lee said, you can have him color tested.
Here's a good explanation of the difference between Cremello and Perlino. The woman who wrote this article was involved in the fight with AQHA to recognize and register these horses.

Thank you guys. :) I cannot get him tested though as he Is not my horse.

Thank you for sharing. Love them :)

Your Double Dilute Cremellos and Perlinos will have blue eyes and pink skin. If they do not have these characteristics, then they are not Cremello or Perlino.
