I have an adult silkie rooster that looks like he developed this condition overnight. At least from everything I've read it looks like the crooked neck. I've also read that vitamin e with selenium is what they need to fix it. I done some research and can only find it for horses which I'm guessing would be too concentrated to dose chickens. Any advice please?

I found vitamin E capsules at the local Dollar Store in the human vitamin section.

I had a young rooster last year that developed wry neck, seemed like it came on pretty quick. So I opened one capsule of the vitamin E and mixed it with water in a one quart chick waterer. This was the only water I let him have and I fixed a fresh bottle of it every day. I also gave him sunflower seeds for the selenium. In just a few weeks he showed no evidence of the wry neck and 8 months later he is happily spending time with his own hens. ;)

You really don’t need selenium, since it is easy to overdose. Just get some human vitamin E 400 IU to give once daily, and give a little cooked egg or sunflower see daily for selenium. Thiamine or vitamin B 1 is helpful in wry neck as well, since a deficiency of either B1 or E is a cause of wry neck. Thiamine is found in most chick vitamins, chopped liver, and in B Complex, which can be crushed and sprinkled on food.

Wry neck is just a neurological symptom, and can be seen in head injuries, vitamins deficiencies, and in certain diseases such as Mareks, fowl cholera, and other sebvere diseases. It is common in silkies and in chickens. They sometimes will walk backward or in circles. Make sure that he is getting plenty to eat and drink or you will have to help him.
