I have been reading some of the posts and I am confused. My hen is lethargic, I brought her in, and her crop is swollen, not hard at all, mushy. She has pooped, and she had a towel under her, it is white and green but I believe there is also a lot of clear liquid? She perks up to drink but has trouble getting it down, I picked her up tonight and she had liquid drizzle out of her mouth, it smelled of obvious vomit, but typical vomit smell. If she is infected, will it hurt to massage, do you only do that when you are done treating an infection? Not sure she has an infection I don't notice any smell in the bathroom to speak of, it was only when she lost the liquid when I picked her up. She is a normal, run-of-the-mill white hen with a red cone. I have molasses, I have coconut oil, and I also believe I have some vaginal yeast treatment whatever stuff somewhere. I also have colloidal silver, Ivermectin, and pretty much a whole arsenal of treatments that nature blesses us with, I have fenbendazole. I don't want to hurt her, if she is infected will massaging it flood her body with poison?

It sounds like sour crop. Most of the time it is a fungal or bacterial infection from having a long term impacted crop. Impacted crop can come from a slow crop due to increased pressure in the abdomen from a reproductive disorder, water belly, worms, or crop contents that would not digest. Sometimes the gizzard is not working. I have never had a bird recover from it, but @azygous has a good article on treating the 3 crop problems—see below. Do not massage a squishy/puffy crop that has a bad odor. If you lean them forward or accidentally press on the crop then, they will vomit, and they can choke to death. Miconazole or Monistat cream or suppositories can be used orally, or you can use Nystatin (vet prescription) or Medistatin powder online for pigeons. Coconut oil is also cut into pieces to peck, and fed. Some use acidified copper sulfate in the water 1/4 ml per gallon of water for 5 days. Get that here:

Update, today she still has noises in her neck, she has passed lots of poop, white and green, she is looking better though still swollen. She is more alert. Question, we were going away for the weekend, do I bring her with us and treat her, or do I wait and put her back with the flock and treat her when we return? Also I have boric acid pills, could I just add that to water?

I called the hotel and they don't allow pets period! I know they use boric acid (boron) to treat vaginal yeast infections, google search results show very little toxicity in even newborn chicks. I will try that and leave her in the bathroom (my son will check in on her while we are gone). It's raining here and cold, plus I only want her to have access to the water with boron in it, she drank a lot. I will post an update on Monday and let everyone know how it went. To specify this isn't Borax, it is Boric Acid (Boron) I have lots of it, and my husband takes it for his bones. He is also going to check with the feed store tonight and see if they have any more suggestions (he hauls hay for a living, convenient he goes to the feed store all the time.
