Has anyone on here ever combined a dark pencilled brahma rooster with a gold laced wyandotte hen before? If so, was wondering what the resulting chicks turned out like? What colours, patterns, any photos? Ratios/percentages of colours, sex and patterns.
If not, please share pictures/info of other varieties of chickens that you have crossed

I've never done that type of cross before, but here's a cross that I did do:

This is Nalla. Her father was a Buff Orpington and her mother was a Buff Brahma. She was a good sized hen with a mothering personality. She had a little bit of feathers on her legs, though her two sons had more. She had the nice Buff color of the Buff Orpington with less of the black of the Buff Brahma. She got some of the Brahma's facial looks, with a little less of the Brahma brow. Without the Orpington's single comb and waddles, she didn't have to be conserned with frostbite in cold temps. She was extremely fluffy. With her whole make-up, she was very cold hardy bird. The only down-sides of her was she wasn't a great layer, she was a heavy hen, and her voice wasn't very favored.

The males will be poor silver laced with yellow leakage. They will have feather legs and walnut combs.
The females will be poor silver laced. They will have feather legs and walnut combs.
Wyandottes have rose combs not walnut all chicks would have rose combs

How interesting. Thanks for replying. Sounds like you've done this combination before. Nice to know what would result if I decided to cross my birds. I need to go google 'picture of walnut comb on a chicken" now, because I don't know if I've seen one of those before. Thanks so much for the info :)

She's a really gorgeous girl! Her colour and her shape are lovely and she looks like a big girl. Shame she wasn't much of a good layer for you. She reminds me just a tiny bit, of a chicken I had in my first flock Zippy. I think she was probably a cross and I'm not sure what she had in her but she was a big girl. She did not lay well either.
Thanks for sharing Nalla! You've inspired me to look at the Buff Orpington for my next flock :)

No, I’ve never done the combination, but you’re welcome!

Thanks! :D

Is there a possibility that Zippy is a Buff Comet? This is a picture of Nalla's half sister Mia. Mia was a Buff Comet. She had the same father as Nalla, a Buff Orpington, and her mother was a Golden Comet.

Oh wow! Yes maybe that's what Zippy was! She does look alot like your Mia! We got our first flock (of 3) from a hatching program at my sons childcare centre. The other chook in the pic was an ISA Brown, and we had an Australorp cross as well. I've never seen any Buff Comets for sale where I live (Maitland, Australia) but Mia really looks like our Zippy so its quite possible!
