I have just taken in flock of chickens. they are a mixed bunch. there are two bantams that have something on there legs and one just has a bit of it on her feet. it looks crusty, and I have noticed that it might be causing some discomfort. does anyone knos what this might be and is there anything I can do to get rid of this issue?

Search poultry leg mites and see if the description and photos match your birds.
If so, cleaning the legs and applying vaseline, vaporub or something sticky like that will smother and kill the mites. Repeated applications are necessary.
It would be best to treat all the new birdz.
Do this chore after dark, with a dim headlight will make the job easier and less stressful for the birds.
Good luck.

Could be lots of things from scaly leg mites to ammonia burn.

Can you post a picture?

Thank you very much I think that is what it is. Greatly appreciate your help.

Looks like scaly leg mites.

I have seen many a thing recommended to treat them.

What I have seen work is a good soaking in Epsom salt water, scrub gently with a toothbrush, then oil the legs followed by vasaline.

You will have to repeat the treatments several times. I would do the vasaline at least once a day with the soak and scrub twice a week.

The damaged scales will fall off but it can take months before the legs look good again.

thank you for your time and suggestions. how long should I do the treatments, or how will I know there gone?
