I am incubating 6 eggs and one has a dark spot stuck on the inside of the egg. It is just a bit smaller than the size of an eraser on a pencil. Other than that the chick is moving just as the other eggs. Should I be concerned about this? What could it be?

Hmm, I would think the dark spot was a dead embryo, but you say you see your chick moving inside? I would just let it be then, but keep an eye on it.......

Could it be a meat spot? I had one of those in my first hatch that fooled me all the way to lockdown because I kept thinking it was a developing chick. Kept putting it back in the bator as a "maybe". Mine wasn't stuck to the shell though. If the developing chick doesn't seem bothered by it, I would let it keep incubating.

I am honestly not sure if it is a meat spot, how would I be able to tell if it is? I was kinda guessing it may be a small cluster of veins stuck to the shell, but who knows... It's day 13 of the incubation and I have been turning it more often than the other eggs to see if that changes the matter at all.

The only way to know if it is a meat spot would be to open the egg (that is how I found out what was in mine) but that would kill the developing chick. Since the chick is still growing, I would not worry about it and see if you can figure out what it is after the chick hatches. Now you have me all curious.

Well unless it is something that will kill the chick I will post to let you know what it was (if I can even figure out what it was).

I've got something very similar to this happening right now too. Mine looks like something is stuck to the inside of the shell in a few different places. I was worried that it was bacterial growth, but there is no bad odor.

I've been on the verge of tossing it at least 3 times now. Just like you, i keep putting it back in as a maybe. I figure as long as it isn't a stinker, i'll let it ride. I will let you know of any new developments.

P. PicklePants, Good luck with your egg, I hope we both have nothing to be concerned about! What day of incubation are you on?
