Day 12.
Belgian d’uccle eggs.
6 were fertile and nice looking at day 7. Now it’s day 12 and I’m pretty sure most are goners except one. But who knows! Help me out!
(I forgot to take a pic of egg 6.)
Anyway at day 6-7 they all had veins and looked like they were developing well. But now only one has veins (egg 3), one’s got 2 black dots, one has 3black dots, One looks huge.
no ring of deaths except maybe egg 2?

I just went through the same thing on day 12 with my eggs :( unfortunately, the ones with large dark spots and no veins/movement were indeed quitters. They looked like they had stopped developing around days 5-8. I gave them a few days just to confirm my suspicion before I took them out/opened them to investigate.

Good luck!

How disappointing! My first hatch we did so well (8/10) so this is really sad. I’ll recheck today and remove them if they are definitely quitters (which I know they probably are but ya know.)

Thank you! Guess I better organise a day old hatch for when this one hatches 🥴

Oops! Guess you just have to go chick shopping 🙃

I got some advice from an old breeder years ago, in his early days he was removing every egg that he thought wouldn't hatch and was getting very low hatch rates until someone in his poultry club said to him "do not remove any egg from your incubator unless it is cracked"... after following that advice his hatch rate jumped to between 80 & 100% straight away.

Interesting!
Our first batch was great 8/10.
This one just seems odd.
I rechecked the eggs prior to tossing and all were floating around, no veins etc.
our next hatch I’ll keep this in mind though !

Were they fertile when you candled them before putting them in the incubator ?
