Hello - complete egg hatching newbie with 8 salmon faverolles and no sign of anything happening at all!

We candled on day 14 and could see movement in every egg.

We’re using an recom 10 and everything is automatic. Temp is 37.5 and humidity a steady 65. There was a bit of condensation so we opened the vents.

We took out the turning plate and popped the eggs on a hatching mat in the machine at day 18.

I don’t think I washed my hands when I did this 🫣 is this likely to cause problems?

Do we just need to be more patient or should we have seen something happening by now?!

Is it possible you miscalculated by a day? And did you candle again on day 18?

I don’t think I miscalculated although it’s not a given. The Hatcher went to day 0 yesterday at 6pm.

We didn’t candle at day 18 - I hadn’t realised you could!
I usually do my last candle on day 18, then put eggs in lockdown
It’s possible for a day or so delay due to temp, so I’d wait but if not nothing happens in the next day I’d try candling an egg and posting a pic here if you’re not sure it’s developing

Ok great - thanks! Actually in the time I posted this - one egg has a little hole in. No chirping though. Fingers crossed for the others!

Thanks for your help! I now have 2 hatched. The first is a total hooligan spending most of its time hurtling around the incubator bumping into the other eggs! It still has a way to go before I can take it out though. Do you think the unhatched eggs will be ok? Also should I wait for them all to hatch before I remove them or take them out as soon as they are 24 hours old?

Welcome to BYC, and congratulations on your hatch! I usually move my chicks to the brooder as soon as they are fluffed up and moving around.

Great - thanks. I’ve moved the first three as they were all fluffy and using the incubator like a formula one track! They’re exploring their new digs now - I’m hoping they’ll get under the brooder soon!
