Im new to this, Ive been googling and searching the site an I see lots of people using the words but not really defining it. I feel like the only idiot in here. lol. anyone know where I can read up on those words?

I'm pretty new to hatching ....

I am using "pipping" for the first hole they crack.

"Zipping" for when they saw around the top that they ultimately pop off.

Example of the "pip"

Example of a "zipped" egg

Internal pip = when they break through into the air sac inside the egg

External pip = when they make the initial hole in the shell to hatch out

Zipping = when they slowly, but surely, turn and peck away at the rest of the shell around them to make their escape!

@barngoddess - that is a beautiful zip!!

omg your joking. thats crazy!

No joke... it is very sweet!

i thought I heard a tweet last night, and some crackling noise. not so much today and no pip yet. maybe it was internal pipping. jesus, my first hatch and its driving me nuts thinking I murdered them by accident.

You might have some losses, but honestly, I think our trying too hard is what causes such madness in the hatch rates... JMO..

Good luck though...
