I am wondering how to actually get the insecticide water down to the chicken skin. I can ruffle the feathers a little with my hands, but it won’t reach all the skin areas. I think I would have the same problem with spraying. last night. I tried dusting a small chicken and I tried working the powder down to the skin, but I didn’t get many areas to reach the skin. I really want this to work so I want to do it the correct way any advice would be helpful. Thanks so much, Candice. I am in South Florida so it’s 90° here.

Hi Candice,

With powders like permethrin, folks speak highly of putting that powder in a sock, then patting the chicken down with it, focusing on the butt and under their wings.

For a spray, though I've never used one, I would go in at night while they are roosting and do the same under the wings and butt area, but with spray you'd have to lift feathers a bit.

Don't forget to do the entire coop and nest boxes. Might be a good time to clean it, sweep it, then treat before putting the new bedding down.

I don’t know much about Elector PSP, but with permethrin 0.5 % you are supposed to spray 15 ml (1/2 ounce) onto the chicken. I would be cautious dipping, since they might get more than needed.
