My boyfriend and I decided to add two Peking Ducks to our chicken flock. Everything has been going smoothly as they co-habitate in the run we built, however, we are trying to figure out the best way to keep their pool clean. We currently have to dump the pool every two days and refill with the hose. Although this works for now, it's not how we would like to maintain their pool long-term. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

With our pool we have a large ~10ft wide rim, so we only have to empty it not very often, so the bigger the pool the less often you have to dump it. You could look at some of the pond filters people use for their ponds in their backyards. It may not keep it as clean as getting completly new water, but you wouldn’t have to use the water as often, but you would have to change the filter cartridge every once in a while.

Welcome to the world of having ducks, they love clean water and lots of it. IMO this is a big part of keeping them healthy.

I have yet to find a way outside of a large natural pond or flowing creek on your property to keep from having to replacing their water at least twice a day to keep it somewhat clean.

We are fortunate to have endless well water over city water with chlorine, so I have the garden hose mounted above their pool with a slow drip into the pool. This does not filter out the solids, but does seem to keep the water clear and fresh for longer.

If you find the perfect solution, please keep us posted. :)
