I'm going to try to build some roll-out nest boxes for our new coop. I've started coming up with a design for a single box but I'm wondering if anyone has a set of plans I can use? Before I go through all the trial and error of figuring it out myself, I figured I'd ask if anyone on BYC can help me get off to a faster start.

Also, I plan on using some sort of pad for the bottom of the box. When I did a Google search I came up with pretty much the same 12"x13" product that only differs in price: http://www.qcsupply.com/420355-stan...eds&sel=8348&gclid=CMWd4_bC6cwCFQIOaQodEi4Mpg
This was the cheapest supplier. Is there another option that I didn't see?
I heard of people using plastic door mat material but I'm leaning towards mats like the ones I linked above because they have bigger holes for poop to drop through. If like to have a poop collection tray below, making clean up easier.

Thanks for any advice I get!

The poop is not gonna pass through the material you have linked to. If you make your nest boxes accessible from the outside, you can lift out the material, shake it a few times and you're good to go. Every now and then hose it off.

Oh, OK. That's good to know. Then, I wonder if there's any reason to buy those mats over just cutting up some of the cheap door mats?

Any idea where I could find some roll-out box plans?

The door mats will start to turn upwards on the corners. The "grain" on the poultry mats runs all in one direction and allows the egg to roll without having the angle be so steep. And, I think the poultry mat is softer. The girls will thank you for that.

I lurked here for years before I actually got started. The best nest roll-out nest boxes ever, in my opinion, is the ones built by Opa. It took me over an hour of searching to find this for you. Here it is!! Ta Daaa

Back then he would send you the plans for them. I looked on his profile and he still posts here. If you PM him, I'm sure he will send you the plans. I wonder how we could get that thread back up front? I think many people would really like these excellent nest boxes.

To be honest, I wanted to find this thread for a while. Your question just prompted me to sit-n-search til I found it. Sure hope you use some of these ideas. I mean after all this work!! LOL!!!

Good luck.
