I bought 4 Pekin babies and all were fine for about 3-4 weeks except one who began to get random dizziness-wobble and fall over etc. It was almost like he would get water in his ears or something. It would only be dizzy for about 20 minutes and then it would clear and it would go on with its life completely normal like the other duckies. It only happened a couple times over a week period. All ducks were together all the time, same food, water, and same everything! Only the one duck ever got goofy. Anyway we left the house with the ducks in the pool not realizing the pool had a pinhole leak so the water got below the rim far enough where they couldn't get out. We came home to mr dizzy floating dead :/ I can understand maybe he got dizzy while in the pool and drowned. The strange thing was a second duck who never acted wierd was also dead and floating!! I didnt realize ducks could drown or i never would have left them in the pool, leak or no leak. The pool had just been changed out the day before meaning it was pretty clean water. All other dizzy duck posts on here seem to surround around botulism but that doesn't seem right in my case because it seems all 4 ducks would have been affected. It's been almost a week and the other 2 ducks are still fine along with 17 chickens who are all in the same yard and still eating the same bag of food. What happened??!! Not knowing is driving me CRAZY! Why was one dizzy and did they both simply drown?

Ducklings have no water way to repel water until they have gotten their adult feathers and have their oil gland up and running, never let ducklings swim with out supervision they get water logged and as you found out drown especially if they have no access out of the pool, Hard heartbreaking lesson learned. The dizziness could have been a niacin dif. which it seems Pekins get quite frequently, Niacin helps with neurological and skeletal problems. So maybe start the 2 you have left on some niacin 150mgs to 1 gal of water till about 12 weeks old. and be sure it's plain niacin not flush free. I'm glad you didn't lose all your ducklings and that they aren't showing any symptoms but it seems it comes on pretty quick so I would really consider the niacin supplement. So sorry for your losses.
