Do chickens choose a rooster by thier self or do they go with the one in the coop.

We have a mixed bantam flock that doesn't currently have a rooster it got killed but the bantam hangout with gamefowl like thier in the flock

It goes both ways, if you introduce a rooster it'll take time for them to accept him.

If you introduce a couple cockerels to a flock of older hens, they'll slap him around abit, & teach them manners. The Head(Alpha) hen usually chooses the male she likes, & that's usually the Alpha.

To find a nest, follow the hens when they wander one direction.
