Just now one of my duckling just woke up and runs around peeping like something scared him. The other duckling goes chasing him confused. He still wants out of his coop and wannts to be with me. I give them new water food and bedding. I wondered if he is hurt and when I put him down he seems fine. I wonder if he had a bad dream. If so I don't know what because I hatched him out of the egg and he's never seen a Predator and thhey both are spoiled and never been harmed. He wont go back to sleep. I gonna watch him closely. I can't figure out what just happened as he is the more healthy one of the two. Can anyone please tell me if there could be anything causing him pain that I can't see Thank you very much

Its like he had a bad dream or seen a ghost but he still ain't right hes still scared or hurt I'm letting him rest in their coop and let them get exercise later. I hope he not hurt but I'm gonna keep an eye out and see if i can tell. I can't see anything Physically wrong but maybe Internally. Does anybody know how i can tell

Hmm, maybe you could do a Vulcan mind meld with him

jk. First off, if he trusts you, you should cuddle him and try to make him feel safer, and if he still doesn't get any sleep, you might want to take him to the vet. Also feel his body and see if you can find any broken bones, and if you do you should take him to the vet.

Thank you luke meister he does trust me ive felt him a little. He feel ok but im no expert and hes running around being his little duckie self today. Idk what happened wish i could ask him. I can talk to geese i need to learn duck Language. I can speak some duckinize lol

1000

Did this happen just once, or all the time? How old are they, what breed? Is their dish with water at least 2 plus inches deep?

I know mammals dream, but I have no idea whether ducks do or if there have even been any avian studies on it. If he's acting okay now, it's probably not anything physical. He might have been dreaming, or he might have heard a noise that spooked him. Like @City farm said, they know you're coming, and they hear other things as well. Being alert to noises is an instinct for them, so it doesn't matter if they've ever been exposed to predators. They'll still startle, and possibly be very afraid afterward, if they hear what their minds tell them is a threatening noise.

It would be fun to imagen a duck dreaming I believe they do because they are smart. Im gonna assume something is wrong with him and do everything i can to help him. Im new at duck raising so im probley doing something wrong. Im gonna read alot of posts on here ask questions and try to raise them healthy. They are in a pin with plenty of food and water get exercise and love. I will raise them the best i can and return them on the lake that i live at and where they came from. Their mom abanded them so they would of died anyways. I love animals Especially ducks and geese. Theres about 50 ducks and about 50 geese that live on this lake and they all know me. Ive saved them from dogs and other Predators. The canadian geese will fly south soon the big white geese wont. There use to be 4 big white geese but now there is only 3 and another goose Similar to them but a different color. Domestic Geese will be left here along with canadian geese who are hurt and cant make the trip. Ducks will stay so my ducks will have Companions. I hope they get Accepted.

It could have been a noise or a dream. I have ducks currently in my house because it'd too cold out. I've hatched all my ducks so they trust me alot. They'll even sleep realy deep from playing all day but can startle if I scare them by accident. They will sometimes wake up and run around. This is one of my ducks passed out cold. But if I don't tip toe he will startle. Ducks have the ability to keep one side of thier brain awake so they are always listening.
