Do hens have personality preferences in friends?

Just a silly question:
I have a Polish (Kalena) hen who's other Polish flockmate (Pierogi) passed away in June. Pierogi timid and Kalena would be more in the middle of the pecking order of my group. The two were inseparable. Pierogi was the lowest in the pecking order and died after mites infested my coop after a flood.
Kalena now is hanging out with my new easter egger who is shy and hides away from everyone else and looks like she will be lowest in the pecking order.
Is this possibly because she reminds her of Pierogi or just because she prefers this temperament?

I have read that chickens prefer to hang out with other chickens that look like themselves... but I have not read anything that has convinced me that a chicken is aware of how she/he appears. Mine seem to have a preference for the chickens that they were raised with -- I have raised 4 different groups of chicks and each has constituted its own friend group, despite being eventually being co-mingled in the same coop.
Just curious, is the easter egger the same color as the lost friend? It is excellent that she is adapting after losing her bestie.

They don't look alike at all. Pierogi is on the right in the 1st picture. EE is a frizzle, even though she doesn't look like it, so I'm wondering if shes mixed with a Polish chicken. Her chirp reminds me of the deceased hen's.
