I am looking for cheap hatching eggs with a variety of breeds. Everything I am finding on the internet is 40+ dollars with shipping. I just bought an incubator and was hoping to get the eggs semi-cheap since it is my first time. Just wondering if anyone knew where to look. Thanks :)

Try posting your request in your state thread. You won't pay shipping if you can pick them up and maybe someone will have mixed breed eggs cheep. Cheap. I even heard of someone trying to hatch grocery store organics. Good luck.

Local Craigslist. Call a local feed store. Also see if there is a farm swap/auction in your area. Shipping eggs is typically a good idea if you can't find the breed you want local or if your buying a large quantity because you'll need to find a hatchery or large scale breeder for that.

The problem with shipped eggs is that you pay more for the shipping then you do for the eggs. Usually its the actual cost of shipping too, so there isn't any choice but pay it.

If you don't care what breed or how close to standard they might be, you can usually get eggs from someone local to you by checking or posting on Craigslist. our first incubation attempt we used shipped White Leghorn eggs and they cost about $14 including shipping for 13 eggs. We hatched 6 of them.

Here in SE Louisiana there are many folks advertising on craigslist with free range fertile eggs. We also have an online copy of the "Louisiana Farm Bulletin" from our state's department of agriculture. I just made a 4 hour round trip buying some eggs to hatch and bought some chicks. I got Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons for 2.50 an egg, Birchen Marans 6.00 an egg, Blue Copper Marans 2.50 an egg and Welsummers for 4.00 a dozen!

With the heat we've been having, fertility may not be optimum but, if you want eggs, they're out there.

I don't know if it's just my area or what but nobody is posting on Craigslist. I'm in Pennsylvania you think it'd be easier to find eggs! I really want some buff orpingtons and speckled Sussex if I can find them. There are a few other breeds i would like to have too.

Does anyone near you sell eggs for eating, not all, but most have a rooster if they have hens and sell fresh eggs. I've had a lady ask to get some hatching eggs from me and all I had out was a eggs for sale sign and a fridge in the yard, I didn't have a rooster at that time because a predator had snatched him a few weeks before or I would have sold her some eggs. Check your bulletin boards, news ads, and keep your eyes open for farm fresh egg signs when your out and about. It never hurts to ask, the worst that can happen is they say sorry no rooster, and you walk away with a few less dollars in your pocket and a dozen fresh eggs for breakfast. lol.

Sylverfly - that is a good idea i might try that on my way to work tomorrow i'll keep my eyes open for signs

wingstone - i live in the state college area of PA
