I know typically you want the high protein count, but does anyone feed grains to the meat birds? How does it change the taste and texture of the meat, if at all? What grains would you recommend?

You could finish them with grains. A cheaper feed to hold them over to slaughter. Say they are ready for butcher and your not then you could hold them over to the next weekend with cracked corn for instance.

Fattening changes flavor but that requires severe confinement and usually a mix of syrup with grain to fatten the bird. This sort of thing was done in our grandparents time and still done in Europe. Not considered humane anymore.

Okay, I'm really looking for ways to increase the quality and health benefits of my meat. It doesn't seem like grain is the way to go. I'm thinking of allowing them to pasture and also feeding them grass clippings. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.
