so i am very excited to get them. he said that they are also show quality if i or my daughter would like to show them.

The "mohawk" is some what common I believe there are some breeders on here that have that line.
To get the best information on that line of Red you might want to go to http://mattlh.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=redforum and post your question there you should get some hits there and one person you will want to talk to there is Robert Blosl ( robertblosl ). He had them for some time and even crossed them with bantam Reds to come up with a Mohawk bantam line..

If you don't mind me asking who are you getting them from?

Chris

I know a guy, I believe he is in Alabama, who has a flock of the Mohawk RIR. They are very dark and large Rhode Island Reds. Great layers of large brown eggs, and the birds themselves are large enough to make a good meal out of.

If their ancestry traces back to Bob Blosl in Alabama they are Mohawks [or at least part Mohawk]. If they came from somewhere elas they're not Mohawks. Be suspicious of anyone who claims unhatched chicks are "show quality".

thats very good to know he said that they came from alabama , he mentioned the guys name but i couldnt remember, so i will ask him. i am realy glad that he offered to show me his breeding flock , i hope that will give some insight on how the chicks might turn out

I am the guy in Colorado with the Mohawk line of chicks. I was directed to the breeder that I got them from by Bob Blosl himself. Matter of fact I have a photo of a young cockeral and a young pullet somewhere on here.

I want to be clear that I did not do not refer to these as show quality chicks. I think no one will know that until they have grown out a bit. I did express that these birds should do very well in 4h shows here in Colorado as I have seen little other than hatchery stock. This Mohawk line as everyone knows has been competitive under the hands of many I intend show some of this year, and would hope that Missy do the same.

I think you will like these chicks I sure like the birds I have. They develop a bit slowly but in my mind are a great strain.

Bob blosl no longer raises Large Fowl RIR. He has been working on a bantam line for a long time and I believe he also has a bunch of Rocks. He is still very active on the RIR forum and has made a lot of effort to save the RIR club. When he told me Greg Chamness had his line I believed him.

Uhhhhhh now I have to go find them I find this uploading finding photos such a pain. Let me see what I can do. The ones I will post if I can find them are quite young. From what I discovered when I was searching for Reds is that a number of people know about them but I tracked down a minimum of 5 other names that had either sold or allowed their birds to get crossed to the point that they were no longer Mohawks. I had Greg name but his phone was unlisted, it took me about three months to track him down. So there may be a lot of Mohawk breeders that I dont know about, but I struggled to find them.

Bob Blosl and I have become email Buddies he encouraged me to write an article for the Chronicle if it ever happens again. Anyway he told be where to find these and was quite persistant

Ok looking for the darn photos
