our chicken Daisy died overnight. Yesterday, and we see them everyday, noticed she was isolating, and just standing still. My daughter noticed she was "puffy" and when she picked her up an egg drop out, and then liquid poop with a little white. She had a hard time standing up after that and her breathing was "notable" maybe I would describe as raspy but not fast. We tried to see if her vent was prolapsed and saw a little pink poking out. I poked it back in and then used some vetracyin. She seemed very obviously to be eggbound sick. We isolated her overnight, she was gone in the morning although still warm to the touch. Our worry now is if this was a contagious illness or eggbound issue. She had vent issues when a chick so we always expected she would never lay eggs but seems like she was. She was 9 months old. Thanks for any insight.

So sorry about your chicken ❤️❤️
If you're willing, a necropsy could help determine if anything else was going on.
I think deworming your flock as a precaution might be a good idea.

I'm sorry you lost your chicken. I don't know if reproductive issues causes breathing problems, raspy breathing almost sounds like a respiratory illness. Did you notice any bubbles from her nares, coughing or sneezing? I've read here if they cannot pass an egg and it gets stuck that it can cause problems with defecation.
We lost a 10 month old chicken to egg binding / prolapsed vent. It happened quickly. It seems when they are young and coming into lay their body has to regulate somehow and this may be a common time for reproductive issues to present.
Hoping the rest of your flock is ok.
