Does outside temperature impact incubator?

I’m incubating eggs for the first time in a small Janoel 12 in my basement and was wondering if the outside temperature of the basement will impact the hatchability of my eggs? The incubator is staying at a steady 98.2F for the hatch, but it’s probably about 50-55 degrees in my basement. Any suggestions?

Yes, put the incubator in a warmer room. The temp should be 99.5-100F.

Good Luck!

The incubator should be a slightly higher temp like Bryam said but it doesn't really matter where the incubator is. Its more important that the room its in stays constant in temperature. For example, you get your bator temp running at 99.5 in a 50 degree room. If it gets suddenly warmer outside and that room temp increased to 70, you might find the bator temp increases slightly. The same with humidity. External conditions can affect inside the bator but once you have it right, leave it alone. So don't move it now, just see if you can increase the temp to 99.5 (if it is a forced air incubator for chicken eggs).

It’s the last 3 days of the hatch, so I lowered the incubator to 98. Should I still increase the temperature?

These are chicken eggs, right? I don't know about other poultry but for chickens the temp should remain 99.5 throughout incubation in a forced air incubator. Only the humidity should be different in the last three days, increased to around 60-70% (there are differing opinions on the best humidity, and it depends on the humidity from the first 18 days.) If your temps have been 98 ish throughout, increase now. You might still find your eggs hatch a little bit late.

The ambient temperature only affects your incubator temperature if the ambient temperature has big swings or if the ambient temperature is too low for the incubator heater to compensate or if the ambient temperature is too high for the incubator to compensate.

Since you are in the last three days of your incubation cycle, your 98°F temperature is fine if you are using a forced air incubator.

Im having a “chicken condo” built where inside will be able to hold chickens and chicks .. i was gunna but my Incubator in there so when hatched i can put them directly in the chick pen. Im in texas. Will the summer heat mess up the incubator being in there?
