My neighbor’s dog attacked my chickens. This time none were killed. My rooster, I think, jumped in to protect the hens and lost all of his tail feathers in the fight. There was a lot of painful squawking. Do I need to be treating the area? I don’t see any blood but the area seems to be pretty raw. Thanks for your input

If you can see red skin, you can put antibiotic ointment on it. Did you check the rooster over well for puncture wounds? I would give all of them electrolytes and vitamins and perhaps a teaspoon of sugar in it to help them get over the shock of it.
Did you report the attack? It will happen again if the dog is not locked up.

My husband and I will give our rooster a closer inspection today. He was at work last night, and I struggled to check him out alone. What vitamins do you give? I appreciate your advice.

We did not report it. Our neighbors are also our friends so it’s very awkward. This is the third time. After the first two they changed their door knob. Yesterday the door was left open.
