Dog eating chicken manure

Dogs love chicken poop. And horse poop.

The main risk from it is worms. Their guts can usually handle any bacteria in there, but the worms can get passed around.

That said, my dogs did/do eat poop if I am not watching them close enough. They snag it on trail rides with the horses, out in the paddock, and will nibble up a chicken turd if a stray falls from the house birds. When I had outdoor chickens they ranged everywhere and my dogs were always getting yelled at for eating the stuff. It's not killed them yet. Keep up on fecals for your dogs, so you can get on top of any worm related issues.

On that note, horses eat eachothers poo for probiotics too. Fun!

Basically it's gross and no one loves it but they'll be okay as long as you keep up on a deworming schedule/at least check them once in a while

Yeah that definitely makes sense, though not everyone can separate their chickens into their own area. I can’t. I don’t worm my chickens either. I use an herbal preventative and check for worms occasionally. The fecal float just checks for worms. I want organic eggs and meat and have never had to worm since I started using preventative measures.
Hi! Curious what perceive measures you take?

This is true but if you are good about keeping your chickens dewormed then this is not a concern. You can take a sample of your chickens poop to your local vet for a fecal float to tell you if they have worms. Its usually an inexpensive test. Worth doing periodically.
Our dog eats chicken poop as well; he thinks it's yummy. Since the chickens are running the small meadow several times a day to 'graze', it's hard to keep this from happening. I do deworm him (the dog) and our cat (and myself) who he's hanging out with, every few months with FenBen since his GI track got sick after eating orange runny poop from a probably infected deer last year.

My dog has been chicken poop lately. TONS OF IT. She's been eating it off the mule whenever it's around. The poop is from chickens that are being raised for meat. It has made her start gagging. Should we be worried and do we need to take her to the vet. Thanks!
Our previous dogs did this. They got horrible gas and burps. Our current situation keeps the dogs away from the poop.
