Hello!
I am just curious if anyone has ever seen this before. I have a chicken with vent gleet and she's been moving slow and sickly. My dog has noticed and won't leave her alone. She keeps nudging the chicken and grabbing it and looking like she's going to fully attacked it. I seperated my dog and put the chicken back in her fly to keep her safe but should I be worried? Has anyone seen this with their dogs? My dog is pretty indifferent to the chickens. She does know and hate roosters tho because my first one I had was really aggressive and dominated my dog.

Hi, are you treating the vent gleet? Just making sure you didn't need advice for that.

Your dog I wouldn't trust around chickens. We have two and one will engage with them if they see a rooster breeding a hen, she breaks it up. That's it though. Your dog doing that could turn on it and by the time you stepped in it'd be too late.

In my opinion, if the dog is showing a little too much interest in the hen, keep the hen safe. Do not allow that behavior to continue. I totally agree with @Debbie292d. The intense interest will result in the loss of the hen. I hope that she is back to being healthy soon. 🙂 Welcome to the BYC community!

This is my second year with chickens and she hasn't bothered them at all. It's only since my chicken has been sick. I have kept her safe since I noticed my dogs behaviors.
I have been giving my chicken Epsom salt baths and apple cider vinegar. She's not really getting better tho. She laid an egg yesterday and that jas been her first in days so I thought she would be more chipper today bit She's still sluggish. She eats and drinks and moves around but slowly and she stays in one spot a lot. Tonight I had to carry her back into the co-op. She didn't go in on her own

I would go to the drug aisle of Walmart or to a drug store and pick up the generic version of Monostat creme. After her next Epsom salt bath, dry her tush off and smear this on and around her vent. You can also give her some of it orally. Maybe put a smudge of it on a small piece of bread or fruit or something small. Try do this a couple of times a day. You should start seeing improvement in a day.

Probiotics would also help, like a little bit of yogurt, or they make probiotic powder for their water. We have Hydro-Hen here.

I realize ACV is a probiotic, and dosage of that is 1 tblsp per gallon of water. I'd switch over to the other stuff for a couple of days though.
