why is my 5 month old drake chasing away just one of my 14 duck hens, he won’t let her eat. all the other 13 hens he is nice to them all. he is my only drake. he has 6 girlfriends that are olds ladies ( (9 yo))and 8 that are young ladies between (5 mo & 2 yo) the one that he chases away is a white layer and I have another white layer that looks almost identical, but he can tell the difference

I have wondered the same my 1 (last June)year old Runner drake doesn’t like my Cayuga and will make her get out of the room they all sleep in and he won’t let her eat if he is standing close to a food bowl with his girls. He’s never attacked her but lets her know she isn’t welcomed. I have 4 separate eating areas so she does get to eat. Just makes me sad she isn’t accepted and of course Missy my goose who thinks this Runner drake is her boy has picked up on making her get away too. Olive the Cayuga came here last Jan with her best Bud a Runner who was accepted right off. I don’t understand this behavior either.

He wasn’t being sweet he was asserting his dominance over them both. Males in the poultry world break up a fight to show that they are the alpha. It is the equivalent of saying “you can do that unless I say so”.

Just makes me sad! I have to keep my 3 older Muscovy ladies separated from this drake. Which is okay. But Olive isn’t part of their flock I want her to be accepted he doesn’t have to hang out with her all lovy Dovy just let her feel a part of everyone.
