Help my drake has a Prolapsed penis and I don't know what to do.. It's been hanging out for about a week now and it's looking black. Ill get pics up asap.

I had this happen to one of mine last year. : :( Unfortunatly there isn't a whole lot you can do once it turns black. Have you been putting anything on it? A prolapsed penis in a drake is from over breeding. I would, if you haven't already separate him from the others. If you can let him soak in your tub with warm water for as long as possible. some say this helps. It however did not help my drake. Borderline (non pain kind) should be kept on it along with preparation H. I am so sorry this happened to your drake. I hope you can get him better.

thanks for the reply. i just finished giving him a bath in warm water and try ed my best at putting some polyporin on it. i hope polyporin is ok for him.. the tip of hes penis is vary hard and looking at it closer it looks brown not black. i have not separated him yet cuz i really would hate to do that but if its a must i will... but i don't really think its from over breeding as i only have 3 females with him. other than hes thing hanging out he seems fine. it was really hard to clean as i had no help with it. hopefully i will get some help this weekend from my sister.

this is lefty having hes bath. hes left wing was twisted when he was born that's why its sticking out.(its not broken!!)

and this is hes thing...lol

I did not get to clean it tonight but my sister will be over tomorrow to help me. I really hope he gets better as he's a really sweet boy.

How is your drake doing?
I have a drake with 3 hens and I went out earlier to feed and water, and noticed that something was hanging out of my drakes tummy I thought it was his guts hanging out but it was his penis,I did not know what was going on until I searched on the internet, found out it was penis prolapse I did not know what to do so I called my vet, they did not know what the problem was,so I called every vet and person I could think of,So finally another vet from another town called me and said to separate him from the hens for 24 hrs and if it doesn't go back in on its own to take sugar and rub on it for 5 to 10 minutes and that should help the swelling and retract it back in.Thank god I went back this evening and so far it is staying in,still keeping him separated from the hens for a day or two to make sure he is going to be o.k.

Hi! I had a drake with this last year. I removed his penis with very sharp scissors. A drake's penis in not really a penis but just a tube to deposit sperm near the vent of the hen. You can pull the penis out and clip off all the black, just clip it high enough up into the healthy pink tissue. I know this sounds drastic but it will save him. I clipped off the dead tissue, slathered it with neosporin (without pain meds in it) and kept an eye on him. My drake still breeds (or thinks he is breeding) and is very happy. When you clip off the dead tissue it might bleed a little if any at all. It's really not as bad as it sounds. My drake never made a sound or moved. But the clipping must be done to head off any worsening infections. He will do better with it removed. Let me know if you have any questions.

I am scared of loosing him I do not know what to do at this point. any advise would be greatly appreciated.
