Duck attacked by raccoon

A raccoon got in my duck pen and killed my youngest duck and injured my other male. They have been moved but I don’t know what to do, I’ve only sprayed him down with silver spray. What steps do I need to take? His eye seems to be gone, but the other side of his head wasn’t harmed. I haven’t seen him drink anything. I am going to town in the morning, what can I get to help him. No vet is opened tomorrow

Wow,kinda surprised he’s even alive.I would sanitize it and put neosporin or something similar on it.Can you see bone? Take him to the vet as soon as possible.Keep a close eye on him.I assume he is separated from the other ducks?I would also SECURE the coop so this doesn’t happen again. Our dogs keep predators away from our chickens so if you have a dog or want one they make good coop guards (as long as they can’t get in the coop)

Welcome To BYC

I'm sorry about your loss and that your duck is injured.

I'd gather him up and flush the eyes and head with Saline. Remove any pus or debris from the eyes. Do look for the start of any maggot activity if it's warm weather where you are.

Inspect him for any injuries on the body, pluck or trim feathers away from wounds, then flush generously with Saline or Chlorhexidine.

After you clean the wounds on the body and face, apply triple antibiotic ointment to the face and eye (or you can use Terramycin eye ointment in the eye). Keep the wound clean and ointment applied.

It's best that he's kept where flies cannot get on the wounds, so if you can move him to a garage or someplace like that it would be a good idea.
