I got these three gals recently to supplement my drakes (now a total of 2 drakes to 5 hens), and I was told they were mallards. But they are quite small and compact compared to my other mallards (who are younger in age but bigger). The length of their bills also makes me suspect they might be mixed with a bantam breed (call perhaps).
I also wonder if their size is a nutrition thing. I let my ducks have free access to however much food they want, which I'm sure has contributed to their larger size, so I'm wondering if a more dieted bird would just end up smaller in stature.
Also these girls are SO skittish (definitely not raised how I raise mine haha) so any suggestions on how to bring them out of their shell so to speak, would be greatly appreciated.
