Hey everyone. I have had ducks for 7 years free ranging and haven't dealt with much in the way of predators. This year I have had a fox and mink and lost a couple birds. I want to build them a yard that they can stay in during the day that will be electric and they will return to their predator proof enclosure and coop at night. I am looking to build a 4-5 high fence (electric wires run on the top for an additional foot). I a looking for ideas for non covered runs people have made.

When we moved to our home, there was an old garden with a 7ft Frankenstein fence. We kept our ducks in there, and smaller predator proof enclosure at night.

We lost 1 to a large hawk or eagle. So we built a fully enclosed run, instead.

My ducks stay in their pen at night and are free range most days , but we have a welded wire fence that was originally built for a dog. It is 4 feet high. 100ft*300ft area with Green posts for sides and wood at the corners. I have had only one duck fly out even though some of the others are capable. All birds are medium to heavy wait.

You may want to add a dig skirt to the bottom of the fence for Fox and coons. If weasels are a concern putting chicken wire over the welded wire would be needed.

I stapled/nailed 1” mesh onto cedar fence boards and then screwed those onto posts. It works great since they can’t stick their heads through. Mine is only 3’ high but you could add another board and/or have a skirt of mesh on the bottom.
