Hey everyone. I have and had pekin ducks for the last year.
I recently assited a duckling hatch and found a 2nd beak. We have twin pekin ducklings. They were attached to each other by there cord. We named the twins Nova and Scotia and they are doing amazing
How rare is this ?

Incredibly rare! I've had a twin egg hatch before.. One had made it and just even that is rare! Though if they are connected to each other they will most likely not make it...

I waited about 2 days till I was sure the cord was dry and cut them apart. They are thriving and had there first bath in the big tub tonight. They preened etc.
They are 5 days old now and almost the size of a hatchling.

So did these little guys have only one yolk between them? And if so did one absorb the yolk?
I am wondering how that works if there are two ducklings sharing a yolk when hatch time comes..

or do two ducklings in a double yolker end up attached to each other by the cord somehow?

Does anyone know if it’s mainly the size that prevents both surviving or other factorrs? I ask as I have a duck who every season lays at least one ENORMOUS double yolker egg, pretty much at least twice the size of most my ducks eggs.

I have never tried to incubate any, but if size is the main reason they don’t hatch, well that wouldn’t be a problem with these eggs, they are basically a king size + suite
