It seems that my two hens are napping damn near all day. Should I be worried about this behavior? They still take time to forage and bathe in their pool, but it seems that their naps are getting more frequent. Could this be due to the sudden heat? I live in Southern Louisiana and summer has already begun here, though it is only February.

Any feedback will help!

I'd think if you don't see any other irregular behavior from them that I wouldn't worry about it. I could see the heat encouraging them to move around less to keep cool, especially if they are sleeping under the shade when they do nap. If they're still eating and drinking as well as doing their other behaviors normally (swimming, grazing, etc.) then chances are they're probably fine. If you notice anything else irregular about their normal behavior is when I'd start being concerned. Are your ducks of laying age? If so are they laying normally compared to what they usually give?

I know how you feel! I’m on the Northshore and my two ducks rest a whole lot. Especially my tubby one- but I have their enclosed run in the shade and I let them forage and swim in the morning, evening, and just before bed. They dabble around in the run every once in awhile but mostly eat and drink and sleep. Completely normal!
