I was unable to find the Durvet for poultry but found this. Has anyone used this for their chicks? Trying to figure out the dilution for chicks and in comparing it to the poultry version it appears that many (but not all) of the components are double what is recommended for poultry. If I just calculated the dilution from the package directions I would be mixing 2 grams per gallon. The package says 8 ounces (or 227 grams) makes 110 gallons.

I pick up the chicks at the post office tomorrow. Want to make sure I don't give them too much and make them sick (or worse!) on the first day.

You sure it is 8 ounces to 110 gallons? I use that same product and I thought it was more of an easy "round the 110 down to 100", and it turned into one gram per gallon of water....now I need to go look...maybe I have been only dosing half strength.

Yeah, you don't have the right directions, unless they changed the concentration per gram. Mine is a 4 ounce packet and it says that one packet (4 ounces) goes into 110 gallons of water. So round the 110 down to 100 and use 1 gram per gallon of water.

Iiiiiiintersting.... I wish I took a photo of my packet last night. It is at home. My directions are close to yours, except it says to add the entire packet versus 1/2 packet.

When I go home I will look at the vitamin concentration ranges in the chart above the directions. Maybe they just doubled the "fillers" in yours and the vitamins are the same?

EDIT: The mystery deepens. I went on Amazon, where I got mine from. Found that I ordered a "blue" background 4 ounce pack. The "red" one is 8 ounces. My blue background seems to have a vitamin range that is twice as high on the upper end as the 8 ounce pack. I think the 8 ounce pack is double the fillers.......if it costs more than the 4 ounce then it is a rip off. Tell me if I am wrong. Links:

Hmmm. So strange. The packaging for yours does say concentrate. In comparing the numbers in the pound column it does appear that the concentrated version has double what mine does. What I paid was about the same as the concentrate so I did get half what you did. Yours does appear to be a much better buy. I will remember next time. Thank you for checking all of this, I appreciate it! Post office just called and I am out the door to get the chicks!

I think you cracked the code. "Concentrate". I actually would have preferred to have what you have since it would make measuring easier. But I have a gram scale, so it is no big deal to weigh out a gram. Just always feels like such a tiny amount.

The breeder who sold me the chicks told me today that she takes the whole 8 ounce (not concentrate) packet, dissolves it all in a gallon of water and then adds an ounce of that per gallon of water to give her chicks and chickens. She keeps her 'mother' solution in a dark place.

I have thought about doing something like that, but I am always paranoid that the potency of some of the vitamins will drop quickly. I usually mix a gram to a gallon and then keep it in the fridge. I only give it to the chicks for the first 3 or 4 days, so a gallon is actually just about right to refill a quart sized waterer 4 times.

That's what I did too for the same reason. Worried about the potency for longterm. A question for you though. There were quite a few small chunks (2-3mm or more) in my package, while the rest was more of a powder. I used the back of a spoon to crush the chunks as well as I could but even after 4 days they didn't dissolve. Did you have this issue as well?

I used 1.7 grams in a gallon based on the dilution for the full amount in the package instructions.
