Hi! Does anyone have any experience with Dutch Bantam x Pekín (Cochin) Bantam?
I had 8 hatch out of the bator the other night, all super healthy and super cute! All black with some white markings except one which looks lavender. Question is; the father is a gold partridge dutchie and mommy is a black mottled pekin. Is it possible the chick can become a lavender?? I know all the eggs were hers.
Thanks in advance!

This is what I found on Google:

Do you know if either bird has lavender ancestry? Or the chick could be blue.
  • Recessive Nature:
The lavender gene is recessive, meaning a chicken needs to inherit two copies of the gene (one from each parent) to express the lavender phenotype.

No idea… I know the Pekín comes from a breeder that has all sorts of colors, maybe way back there is some gene? dna works in the strangest ways sometimes..
