Has anyone had to deal with Eagles?
We live in rural Michigan and have tons of red tail hawks in our area but our neighbor just informed us there are two golden eagles nesting in the woods by their house.
It’s not common for eagles to nest in this part of the state so I’m hoping they aren’t here to stay! The neighbor next to them told them her big dog was attacked by one which kinda freaked me! I know eagles can be very large and can attack bigger animals. This might be a dumb question but would they attack a child? We have a 1 year old, 4 and 5 year old. Plus the chickens but I don’t let them free range anymore due to a hawk killing our rooster last December. We do have a large chocolate lab too. I hope these eagles leave soon! I’ve also noticed I haven’t seen any hawks in the sky’s lately and I’m wondering if they are afraid of the eagles. Is that a thing? I don’t know much about eagles!

Where is the nest in your yard? Is your house near it. Eagles normally don't attack unless they feel threatened so I would stay far away from the nest. What type of Eagle.

While rare, but yes eagle or hawk can attack children. from google

While it's rare, eagles have been known to attack humans, including children. However, the vast majority of interactions between eagles and humans, especially children, are not aggressive. The threat of an eagle carrying off a child is low, with most incidents involving eagles either defending their territory or displaying unusual behavior.

Is there a body of water nearby? Eagles like to nest by water, but of course not always do.

I have Bald Eagles in my area but haven't had any take interest in my chickens, unlike the hawks. The Bald Eagles will show up for deer gut piles, ground hog carcass, and raccoon carcass. Not sure if Golden Eagles are similar.

It’s not as close to us as it is to our neighbors. That’s good to hear! They are golden eagles

Firstly, Golden Eagles do not nest in Michigan. Second, immature Bald Eagles and even hawks are frequently mistaken for Golden Eagles. IF they are Golden Eagles, which I highly doubt they are, they are likely migrating and won't stick around. While both species of eagle will hunt land animals, Bald Eagles are less likely to and prefer to hunt animals on and in the water.

I have hawks and the occasional eagle in my neighborhood. The eagles I imagine are migrating thru. I have more problems with ground predators then aerial.
Bald eagles the last 40 years have really made a comeback.
