One of my hens laid a big lash egg today. We have had a sick hen (New Hampshire Red, about 4 yrs) with a swollen rear end since Jan. 1. At the time, she went to the vet, I had her inside for 10 days and we tried 2 antibiotics. Nothing worked, so we have put her back with the flock and she seems happy, except the lump on her rear is larger and angrier than ever. There was a lash egg about a month ago.

I don't know who passed the lash egg as I didn't see her go into the roost today.

Her sister now has what looks like a small vent prolapse and is starting to get a swollen lump on her rear too. Spent a bunch of time today in the roost. I'm concerned she now is developing Salpingitis. My question: is there a bacteria in the flock? Is it something I'm doing? Does Salpingitis run in flocks? I have 4 older girls and 5 young hens.

Sorry about your hens. Salpingitis can be common in hens, and can be especially common in hens who have had infectious bronchitis in the past. It also is common if there is bacterial infection that has gotten into the oviduct. Here is some reading about the causes of salpingitis:
