Anyone ever hatch an Easter Egger/RI Red mix? Just curious what I might get. I have an Easter Egger rooster and RI Red hen.

I've hatched tons of them.

Very Pretty chickens. Rooster were red and green laced with muffs, and hens were bright orange.

My RIR/EE hen is my best chicken, very friendly, and most special pet.

I've hatched them out before. Mine were an EE roo over a RIR hen and the chicks were either red or white with some red/black in the hackles and tail, all with beards. The red ones looked exactly like a RIR except for the beard! Mine laid brown eggs.

It makes no difference whether the hen or rooster is a RIR or EE in determining the color fo the eggs. The egg color is determined by whether the offspring inherit the blue egg gene and it can come from either parent. If the EE has one copy of the blue gene, which is most likely, half the offspring will lay a green egg (blue mixed with brown =green) and the other half will lay brown eggs. If the EE has two copies of the blue egg gene, not likely, usually only Americaunas have two copies. In that case, all the offspring will lay green eggs, as it only takes one copy of the blue egg gene to be inherited to produce green eggs because it's dominant.

I received blue eggs most likely fertilized with a buff orpington or RIR rooster, could the chicks turn out more easter egger or more RIR/ buff orpington?
