Hey all,

I got two baby chicks who are supposed to be hens. This is my first Easter egger so i was wondering if anyone can help me and tell me if they think the Easter egger is a roo or a hen.

I also see pullet. Here's a photo of a 2-month-old EE pullet (left) and cockerel (r). The pullet's comb is a little pink already but smaller.

The cockerel has a telltale 3-row pea comb, which can indicate a boy, and it's much redder. He also has orange splotches and uneven feather patterning, which is common in the males of this style of Easter Egger.

There's a bunch of variation in growth rates and comb types in all chickens, and most especially EEs, so there's a chance you have a boy, but I think it's a lady.

Thank you for posting the pic, I was mostly going off the neck feathers and it looks like your pullet has the same

Yeah, those neck feathers will scare you, but pullet neck feathers become more pointy looking as they mature. Also, some people worry when they see iridescence, but dark-colored hens can have just as much of that beetle sheen as roosters.

Oh, and here's how the cockerel turned out (at least before his 1st molt, which he's threatening to do right now). In that first picture, you can see his tiny yellow hackle feathers starting, much more pointy than what the pullets get.

Hackle & saddle feathers start showing up in that 2-3-month range. Easier to see on some birds than others.

Lastly, here's how that pullet's neck feathers turned out. Happy Easter Eggering! I love those birds. Hardy, sociable, and their eggs make people oooo and ahhh.
