One of my family members wonders if it is okay to eat a dead chicken? Is that okay? Will it cause sickness to us?

It is 3 to 4 years old. I am not sure if it had disease /illness I can't tell. How can I tell if it was sick? I was there the second it died. I heard it knock the food tray down and I heard a few squacks but I am not sure if it was from my future dead chicken. Anyways, I rushed to its side to help it I thought it's leg had gotten hurt. But then I saw its eyes slowly closing and water coming out of its mouth. Then the chickens starting pecking at the water coming out of the mouth. Truly disgusting. I am so worried! It depends how it died... did it have trauma (break its neck, ect) or did it have a disease/illness? How long was it dead before being found?
Trauma - possibly eat
Illness - do not eat
thank you! I threw it away recently, just to know for the future becayse I have 5 more chickens growing old as wellhow long has it been dead? if less than 3 hours you prosses it should be fine. but I am no expert, but my neighbors are Butcherers and they have eaten killed animals. but they are usually not as good as butcherd. hope this helps! and I am sorry for the loss of your chicken![]()
I always make sure my chicken is dead when I eat it.
